Frequently Asked Questions

What are the accomodation options?

Participants can book reasonably priced accomdation for two nights as part of their ticket. There are two accomodation options which both include breakfast.

  • Student Accomodation - a short walk from the confrenece Great Hall
  • Couryard Accomodation - adjacent to the conference Great Hall
Dartington Hall is an old building with history and heritage, so all Courtyard Rooms have a unique character. Rooms with a Separate Bathroom are not en-suite – a separate, private bathroom is available a short distance from the room. Rooms with a Seperate Shared Bathroom follow the same principle, but each bathroom is shared between two sets of guests. Student accomodation provides low cost no frills accomodation. Alternatively there is a campsite on the Heritage estate with uninterrupted views of Haytor. You can book a space from here: The town of Totnes is not far away and has Air B&B, hotels and bed and breakfast options.

When will you publish a programme?

The provisional programme will be published in April. The main speakers have been booked for the conference, and we are working with them to ensure we have a conistent theme, where the speakers combine to build a unique and inspiring experience. However, as we are receiving a number of inquiries and offers from potential contributors from around the world. We aim to keep options open until these have been fairly assessed and decided upon. Hence the programme will be subject to changes until approximately 1 month before the event.

What is the conference fee?

Registration prices are not yet fixed but are expected to be:

  • Full registration £290
  • Full registration + student accommodation 2 nights £380
  • Full registration + courtyard accommodation 2 nights £440
Lunch and evening meals are included in the registration price. Accommodation options also include breakfast.

Is food and drink included in the ticket price?

The food will be vegetarian. Coffee, teas and water will be provided to all conference attendees through out the day. Included food:

  • 3 day ticket - 2 evening meals and 2 lunches.
  • 3 day ticket + accomodation - 2 breakfast meals, 2 evening meals and 2 lunches.
For those who have special dietary needs, including meat, gluten free, etc. you may specify this when purchasing your ticket and we will pass the information to the caterers. There are several bars, and cafes on site.

Can I help at the event ?

We would love to hear from you. Please write to: and let us know if you have any particular skills you can share.

What language will the conference be held in

English will be the lingua franca. We have decided not to provide translation as the cost to do so would be very expensive, and this would require a significanlty higher conference fee to cover these costs.

Travel Information

On Foot: The Dartington Hall estate can be reached via various footpaths from all directions, but it’s worth highlighting that it is connected to neighbouring Totnes by a handy path (approx 2 miles). To access it, walk through Totnes Rail Station’s main car park to the opposite end from the main road. You will soon locate the footpath to Dartington. Follow the path to the banks of the River Dart and turn left. The path continues with the river on your right and leads round to a large weir. Continue along the riverside path to reach a lane. Turn right along the lane, cross Bidwell Brook and you’ll have a choice of continuing to The Shops at Dartington (via a marked path on your left) or continuing straight on to the main estate. By Train: Totnes is the closest town and the conference site is a short 2 mile taxi ride away. By Car: From the A38: Take the exit signposted to Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge via the A385. After 5 miles, the estate’s Upper Drive entrance is signposted on your left, just before Dartington village. From Totnes/the coast: Follow the A385 though Totnes and Dartington village until you see the signposted entrance to the Upper Drive on your right. By Bus: 165, Totnes to Dartington Hall/Broadhempston. Stops at The Shops at Dartington and the central estate (Hall and Gardens). There are coaches from London (Victoria Coach Station) and other major cities. More information and timetables: or call 0871 200 2233. By Bike: The Sustrans National Cycle Route 2 path runs along the edge of the Dartington Hall estate, from Dartington village to Totnes, which intersects with the lower Dartington drive that leads uphill from Totnes to Dartington Hall. Once at Dartington, 8 covered bike ‘parking spaces’ are available in the main car park and 5 further uncovered spaces can be found behind the East Wing. Please bring your own secure bike lock. By Space Craft: There are many places to land.
